It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Defilippis of Endicott, NY, who passed away peacefully in her daughters’ arms on Thursday April 8, 2021. Maria was predeceased by her parents Pietro and Mary (Ceccuccia) Silvestri, her brother Fred (Nando) Silvestri, and her beloved husband Tobia Defilippis. Maria is survived by her daughter, Paula Benware (Dr. John); Grandchildren Richard Rogers and Dr. David Rogers (Laura) who affectionately refer to Maria as Angel; Step Grandchildren Allison Weisel, Elizabeth and Paige Benware; Great Grandchildren Leah and Samantha; Step Great Grandchildren Ryan, Marland, and Asher; nephew Anthony Silvestri (Carole), as well as several cousins and numerous extended family members. Maria also leaves behind countless dear friends who she considered family within the Italian community on the North Side of Endicott. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
Maria was born in Arnara, Italy in 1926. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1963. Maria was strong willed and a very hard worker who retired from Endicott Johnson. She loved her garden and could grow anything! She was a wonderful cook, which was her favorite thing to do for her family. Maria was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s church in Endicott, NY, as well as a life-long member of the Independent Mutual Aid Society.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Point Nursing Home for their wonderful care and compassion they gave to Maria during her stay due to dementia. They are truly amazing!
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 11 am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Wednesday from 10 am until Mass time at 11 am. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mercy House in her memory.
