Mary S. Patterson, 99, Binghamton, NY died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Good Shepherd Fairview Home. She was predeceased by her parents Atty. Roswell H. and Emma S. Patterson as well as two sisters Louise Patterson and Emma P. Kraemer. She is survived by her sister, Alice P. Lewis, Lansdale, PA and her brother, Roswell S. Patterson, Endwell, NY as well as 8 nieces and nephews. She was born at home in Scranton, PA where she lived most of her life. She graduated from the Ogontz School, and she attended Wellesley College and The American School for Girls, Istanbul, Turkey before graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School. She had a penchant for hard work. She worked for many years for Wrightnours, Inc. as well as the Eureka Printing Company and Arley Wholesale. In her retirement years she worked as a volunteer teaching reading at SCOLA. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Century Club, Elmhurst Country Club, The Scranton Club and the Lackawanna Historical Society. She was an avid golfer and bridge player, and she enjoyed her walks around Lake Scranton. She devoted much of her personal time nurturing and entertaining her nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Marlene Hudson of Home Instead, Clark-Summit and the staff at Clarks-Summit Senior Living for their loving care. The family would also like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Good Shepherd Village and Good Shepherd Fairview Home for their kind, compassionate care.
A Memorial service will be held at 3 PM, August 9th at Covenant Presbyterian Church Chapel, 550 Madison Ave., Scranton, PA. Burial at Abington Hills Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Communities Foundation, 32 Village Drive, Endwell, NY 13760 or Lackawanna Historical Society, 232 Monroe Avenue, Scranton, PA 18510.
