Patricia Schmutz Giannuzzi, 78, of Vestal, NY, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, NY, Monday, May 29, 2017, with family by her side. Patricia was born in Oneida, NY, on May 22, 1939, the daughter of Leo Francis and Anna Mullin Schmutz. She was a member of the Oneida High School class of 1957, and graduated from Binghamton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. Pat touched many lives during her forty year career as a registered nurse, working primarily at Lourdes Hospital. In addition to nursing, she was very involved in the Church, and particularly loved the time she spent at Mt. St. Francis Hermitage as a Third Order Franciscan. She actively lived her faith by quietly supporting and volunteering for many people and organizations in our community. Patricia was predeceased by her parents and dear cousin Joan March. She is survived by her three daughters: Corinne (Benjamin) Schwartz of San Marcos, TX, Veya Giannuzzi of Vestal, NY, Kirstie (Gibson) Hartwell of Missoula, MT; her much loved grandsons Zachary Schwartz and Harvey Hartwell; Dr. Robert (Michele) Giannuzzi of Binghamton, NY; her brothers Paul (Annette) Schmutz and their children, Stacey and Brian, of Springfield, MA, and Charles (Mary) Schmutz of Baldwinsville, NY. Pat also leaves behind many special friends whom she held close in her heart. We all will miss her very much. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday June 28, at 12 pm at Saint Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Church from 10 am until Mass time at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any expressions of sympathy be made to a charity or person in need, in a way that best honors the giver’s friendship with Patricia.
