Richard Charles Curley (Dick), 93 (The Homesteads, Apalachin, NY), peacefully went to be with his Lord on March 28, 2022, surrounded by his family. Dick was born August 8, 1928, to Francis and Bridget (McInerney) Curley in Middletown Township, PA. He was raised on his family’s farm on Irish Hill, near Friendsville, PA, and was a graduate of Rush High School class of 1946. He moved to Binghamton, NY, after high school, working as a mechanic until being drafted for the war in Korea. Dick rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers in Korea. After the war Dick returned to Binghamton and attended Broome County Technical Institute (SUNY Broome) in Binghamton. Dick met the love of his life, Beverly (Bev) Olmstead in 1951, and they married July 24, 1954, in Johnson City, NY. He lived and worked most of his life in Endicott, NY. Dick worked as a Customer Engineer and Manager for IBM for 34 years, working in Endicott, NY, Washington, DC, and Owego, NY.
Dick loved hunting and enjoyed the outdoors his entire life. In his younger years, Dick hunted foxes with his father and brothers to earn money for the family during the winter months. He continued his love of hunting and the outdoors throughout his life. Dick was an avid baseball fan, faithfully following the Binghamton Triplets in the 1950s and the NY Yankees throughout his life. In his later years, Dick reacquainted himself with his love of horses, something that had begun while growing up on the family farm. He purchased a horse for his son Steve, and Steve moved to Oregon after college. Dick retired and moved to Bend, OR, with his wife Bev. There Dick and Bev began raising and showing Arabian horses which became a passion they shared. Dick also began another career as a handyman at the Opportunity Foundation, a group home for handicapped residents in Redmond, OR, retiring again at the age of 80. After Bev passed away in 2015, Dick moved back to NY to be closer to the family farm where he grew up and to be near his brothers and sister in PA. Dick always put his family first. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids both in NY and OR.
Dick was predeceased by his wife of 61 years Beverly (Olmstead) Curley, his parents Francis & Bridget (McInerney) Curley, brothers William, James and Harold. Dick is survived by his brothers: Thomas Curley, Robert (Mary) Curley; sister, Mary Louise Keenan; children: Lawrence (Renee) Curley (Endwell, NY), Steven (Jennifer) Curley (Redmond, Oregon), Lisa (Michael) Himko (Endicott, NY); fourteen grandchildren, Bridget Curley (Evan Martucci), Daniel (Rachelle) Curley, Amanda Curley, Caroline Curley, Rhiannon Curley, Fiona Curley, Owen Curley, Audrine Curley, Evangeline Curley, Martin Curley, Declan Curley, Evan Curley, Amber (Dylan) Bridges, Dustin Himko; and three great-grandchildren, Kielee-Anna Bridges, Dylan Bridges Jr, and Reese Bridges; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 6 pm at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Visitation will precede the memorial service from 3 pm to 6 pm, Thursday, May 19, at Allen Memorial Home. A burial service for the family will take place the following day at St. Johns Cemetery on Irish Hill in PA..
