Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Sophie A. Grenchus, age 93, of Endwell, NY, passed away peacefully in her home on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Grenchus Sr., her parents Elias and Anna Pridon, brothers, sisters (and spouses) Pete (Mary) Priggon, Bill (Nancy) Pridon, Eva (Dave) Farrell, Mary (Leo) Germain, Julie (Tom) Harmon, and brother-in-law John Looney. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Looney, Troy, NY; her children Edward (Rita) Grenchus Jr., Vestal, NY; Barbara (Thomas) BeGasse, Blufton, SC; Susan (Peter) Eschbach, Mays Landing, NJ; Charles (Patrizia) Grenchus, Zane’, Italy; Colleen (Carlo) Simoncelli, Henrico, VA; grandchildren Courtney (Jason) Wells, Jennifer Grenchus, Julie BeGasse, Gabrielle Grenchus, Andrew BeGasse, Connor Simoncelli; and great-grandchildren Eva Grenchus, Lydia Wells, and Mikayla BeGasse. Sophie was a loving wife, mother, and true friend to all. She had a deep devotion to our Blessed Mother and Saint Francis. She was a member of the parish Altar and Rosary Society, Fatima Club, and numerous other church activities. As a masterful quilter, she passed her wonderful knowledge and skill to countless friends and family members. She was an avid sports fan of Army athletics, the NY Yankees, Giants and Knicks. She loved to watch and converse about the news and many wonderful activities that filled her day during her calls to family and friends. At her passing, Sophie was in her favorite chair doing what she treasured most – praying to our Lord and the many angels and saints who were part of her daily life. She never let you or a complete stranger walk away without saying, “I love you.” She truly was, and remains today, “God’s Gift” to us all.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday 12 pm at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
