Sophie Orzol Zandy, 96, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 16, 2014. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Levio Zandy, her parents Valentine and Esther Orzol, a son John Zandy, a granddaughter Allison Shayne Zandy, three sisters, Edna Zunic, Helen Wagner and Genevieve Demick and a brother Chester Orzol. Sophie is survived by her two sons, Reverend Edward J. Zandy and David J. Zandy and her daughter-in-law Penny Zandy; three grandsons and their wives, Kyle and Jody Zandy, Houston, TX, Matthew and Michelle Zandy, Endwell, NY, Aaron and Tracy Zandy, Winter Park, FL; six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Clare, Emily, Megan, Brooke and Luke and many close nieces; nephews and extended family members. Sophie was a lifelong resident of Endicott. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott. She loved her Catholic faith and was very proud of her Polish heritage. You most often found her cooking a delicious meal for her family, watching Yankee baseball or the Golf channel or reading recipe books. She was a 26 year employee for GAF where she examined x-ray film. Special thank you to the staff of Wilson Hospital, Good Shepherd-Fairview Home and her lifelong physician Dr. Victor Elinoff.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10 am, with her son as Principle Celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen memorial Home Wednesday 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Sophie’s memory may be made to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, c/o St. Vincent/Blessed Sacrament Church, 165 Clifton Boulevard, Vestal, NY 13850 or St. Anthony of Padua Church Food Pantry, 906 Jenkins Street, Endicott, NY 13760.
