Thomas E. Ackerman, 87, of Endicott, died on November 26 after a lingering illness. He was the son of Henry and Martha (Fallier) Ackerman of Johnstown, PA. He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law George and Wilma Ackerman and his brother-in-law Jerry Stafford. He will be missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Joan Ackerman; his children Paul Ackerman, Endicott, Lisa Ackerman, Saratoga Springs, NY and Thomas Ackerman, Jr., Hatboro, PA; his sister Phyllis Stafford, Deltona, FL and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nancy and Bruce Davison, Bloomington, MN., and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Ferndale High School, Johnstown, PA, Tom joined the Army Air Corp 1060th during World War II. As a radar technician, he served in Ie Shema, the Philippines and Guam. Tom graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for I.B.M. for 38 years before retiring in 1989. Tom enjoyed fishing, sailing, photography, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a charter member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Endwell where in the past, he served as council president and deacon.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 2-4 pm. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 12 pm. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 731 Hooper Road, Endwell, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund at Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
