Lynda L. (Dombrosky) Wargo, 83, of Johnson City, NY went to be with the Lord on March 17, 2024. The cause was complications from Multiple Myeloma. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Margaret (Murtha) Dombrosky, her brothers Joseph Dombrosky, and Thomas Dombrosky, and her sisters, Mary Bonacci, Patricia Murzynski, and Karen Dombrosky. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Joann and James Trainor of Endicott, NY, as well as an exceptionally large extended family. Lynda was especially close to her niece, Cara Vail of Carbondale, PA, and her nephew, Robert Wargo, of Johnson City, NY.
Lynda graduated in 1958 from Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale, PA, and then began nurses’ training in Lackawanna, NY, graduating as an LPN. In the mid-1960s, she moved to Endicott, NY to work at what was then Ideal Hospital. Later in her nursing career, she became a neonatal nurse at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY. She absolutely loved her job there; taking care of the babies in the nursery was such a joy for her. Lynda was also one of the nurses involved with setting up the Wilson Hospital’s NICU, which she was very proud of.
In 1977, Lynda gave up nursing to become a full-time homemaker and mother to her daughter. She volunteered and worked at various part-time positions until, in the late 1980s, spurred on by her innate desire to help others, she enrolled in Broome Community College (SUNY Broome) to become a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor. Soon after finishing her courses, she began working at the Addiction Center of Broome County (ACBC), helping countless addicts and alcoholics to get and stay clean and sober. She was awarded the Broome County Counselor of the Year award in 2006, and after a 20-year long career at ACBC, she retired in July 2007.
Lynda was a force of nature, a firecracker with a heart of gold. She loved spending time with her family and friends, chocolate, butterflies, and anything purple. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, listening to and dancing to music (especially the jitterbug and the twist), reading, crafts of all kinds, and watching Jeopardy. She was involved with the Red Hat Society and was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Johnson City, NY. She was loving, compassionate, intelligent, assertive, opinionated, and hilarious. She had 41 years clean and sober when she left this world, an accomplishment that she was both proud of and immensely grateful for. Lynda lived a big life, and she had a big heart to match it. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Wednesday, March 27 from 6-8 pm.
