Ruth (Shoop) Stevens Ruffo, 84, of Owego, formerly of Vestal and Newport Richey, FL, passed away and was reunited with her beloved husband Bert E. Ruth (Shoop) Stevens Ruffo, 84, of Owego, formerly of Vestal and Newport Richey, FL, passed away and was reunited with her beloved husband Bert E. Stevens on Friday, November 23, 2012, after an extended illness. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lori Stevens Shultz, and grandson, Madison Michael Rozelle. Born on February 25, 1928 in Forest City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Harriet (Brain) Shoop. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Alvaro of Carbondale, PA, her sister-in-law, Marion Shoop of Chenango Bridge, NY, three daughters, Cheryl Brigode (Thomas) of Owego, NY, Marcy Rozelle (Mike) of Cary, NC and Karin Bonzek (Chris Chechatka) of Endicott, NY, five grandchildren, Joshua Springsteen of Charleston, SC, Erin, Megan and Emileigh Bonzek, Michael Rozelle, a great granddaughter Sage Springsteen, a very special and dear friend Sara Fournier, and several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed her grandchildren, golf, music, bird-watching, puzzles (fondly referred to as the puzzle queen) and summers spent at the family cottage in Canada, fishing, boating, waterskiing and spending cherished time with family and friends. Ruth will always be remembered for her strength, bravery, perseverance and quick smile over the last few years of her life. The family would like to extend special thanks to the exceptional staff and friends at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Owego, NY for their kind, compassionate and loving care of Ruth. She will truly be missed. Services in celebration of her life will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 2 pm, from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with Pastor Sara Baron officiating. A private burial service will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin, NY. The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home, Monday from 12 pm until service time at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.
