On August 8th, 2021, Bert passed away with his wife, son and sister by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Bert & Greata Karlson; brother-in-law, John Krzyzewski. Bert was employed in Facilities Maintenance Management at Broome County Arena/Forum, and Maine’s Food. His most famous job was playing Poppa to his grandsons for nine years, including fishing, and their sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Karlson; son, Michael & Laura Karlson. “Poppa” and “Poopmaster” to his beloved grandsons, Jacob Anthony, Domenic John & Lucas Michael Karlson. Missing him greatly will be his sister and brother-in-law, Karen & Val Frigo; nephew, Jon Frigo (Rene’ and Cole), and niece Connie Frigo. Also survived by sister-in-law, Donna Krzyzewski; nieces, Kim Krzyzewski and Kristen Krzyzewski, Anya Joseph and their families, Francis Gilbert, David Yalowitz and Lyndon Joseph. Cousin, Jan Carlsson (Brit & Daniel) from Sweden. Bert enjoyed the friendship of Joe & Rita Roma, the Paniccia family, Jim Spencer (Ginny), Pat & Dave, John & Colleen, Jim & Lisa, Jude, and many other friends in his neighborhood. Many thanks to the nurses and doctors at Lourdes ICU for their care of Bert.
A Prayer Service will be held Friday 5 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends Friday from 3 pm until the Prayer Service at 5 pm.
