Freedman, 82, of Endicott, passedaway onWednesday, August 15, 2012, surrounded by family at Wilson Memorial Hospital.He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years,Virginia, four children and their spouses:Richard Freedman and Trisha Murphy of Fairfield, CT; Elizabeth (Betsy) and Carman Garufi of Binghamton, NY;Martin and Laurie Freedman of Rochester, MI;Mary Kay and Jim Quilliam of Manhattan Beach, CA;nine grandchildren (Alex, Chris, Giovanni, Angelo, Francesca, Kylie, Kevin, Vanessa and Alexa); two brothers and a sister-in-law Michael and Jennie Freedman, York, PA and James Freedman, Chapel Hill, NC.He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Helen (Bulissa) Freedman, a brother, Robert, and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Freedman. Ray was born and raised in Torrington, CT and received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering from Yale University. He joined General Electric Co.in 1952 working at various locations; it was whenhe was stationed in Salina, KS that he met his wife and life-time love, Virginia.They were married in 1958 and relocated to Endicott, NY in 1960 where they have remained to raise their family.After hisretirement from G.E. in 1991, theyenjoyed travelling world-wide while also frequently visiting their children and grandchildren.He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott and an active member and volunteer in many community organizations including Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, Vestal Knights of Columbus,G.E. Elfun Society, tax consultant for AARP, Leader-Boy Scouts of America Troop 208-Endicott, and Coach-Beaujon Hills Little League Baseball. His passions included reading, gardening, sports and music.The family will receive relatives and friends, Sundayat the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, 2-5 pm. A Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church will be on Mondayat 10:30 am.In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, 701 West Main Street, Endicott, NY 13760 or Our Lady of Good Counsel Soup Kitchen, 200 Grippen Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
