James D. Gable,54, of Johnson City, passed away, Saturday November 10, 2012 after a long courageous battle with cancer.He was pre deceased by his grandparents John E. Kauffman and Naiomi Kauffman (McCreary).He is survived by his wife and best friend of 24 years Valerie A. Gable; his only daughter Maria A. Gable, Johnson City; mother Anna A. Gable, Lititz, PA; three sisters Carol L. Turk and her husband Thomas, Fairborn, OH; Wendy G. Norris, Lancaster, PA; Wanda J. Walls and her husband Richard, Lancaster, PA; mother-in-law Shirley A. Vergona, Endicott; brother-in-law Thomas J. Vergona and his companion Kelley Marshall, Endicott; niece Joline Ross and her husband Michael, Lancaster, PA; nephews Thomas C. Turk, Mason E. Norris, Hayden A. Ross, and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with his special pet Fifi. James was employed through the Local Carpenter’s Union #281.He then went on to work at Brookside Elementary School in Susquehanna Valley, NY where he thoroughly enjoyed the company of all his fellow co-workers and the school’s students until his retirement in 2011.He was a member of the Johnson City Elks Club.In his spare time he enjoyed volunteering at the Endicott Performing Arts Center (which he helped restores part of the original “dirty dozen”), building things in the shop, making improvements to his home, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.Memorial Services will be held Wednesday 7 pm from the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street Endicott, with Reverend Daniel Eddings officiating.The family will receive friends at the memorial home on Wednesday from 4 pm until service time at 7 pm.In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Endicott Performing Arts Center (EPAC), 102 Washington Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
